We are ready to remodel our 2002 Coleman Westlake with a Summer Camp Cabin look. New roman shades, bunk-end curtains, light-weight seersucker bedding, and pretty hand-hooked pillows will give us a cozy camper style that will carry us through our summer adventures. We’ve compiled a visual list of our summer pop up camper design ideas.

summer Camp/Cabin Theme pop up camper Design ideas
First things first…I know it’s just camping. But actually…expanding on that, this is a rolling hotel room that will take us on whatever adventure we desire. With that in mind, I am designing our pop up camper to be the most comfortable place to lay our heads at the end of an exhausting day of adventuring. Since we will be spend much of our time in this little tiny house this year, cozy is a big priority. And now that we have decided not to send our oldest back to school this fall, we will all be working from home and home will be the camper a few days a week.
pop up camper CUSHION COVERS
Covering the cushions in the dining area and sofa are a huge priority. When we took down the burgundy curtains and bunk curtains, the pop up became instantly more neutral. But, the cushions remained. An interesting design, I think they must have been really in style in 2002. Every pop up has the same nubby fabric with grays and burgundy and brown. 2020 = no thanks; I need something neutral.
We have these gorgeous custom cushion covers on order from Covers & All being made right now! I couldn’t believe the price on these! You simply enter your cushion dimensions and they create them and ship them to you. We purchased the rectangular cushion covers, in the Cushion Fab fabric (light sand). We were able to get the dinette covers (4) and the sofa covers (2) for only $159.00!
These custom cushion covers are made from outdoor fabric and are removable via a zipper in the back. Outdoor fabric appeals to me because I have two little kids who love to wipe sauces all over my things. These will make for easy clean up when they do this in the first 5 minutes of camping.
Pop up camper roman shades and bunk-end curtains
Pup up camper curtains do the job, I get it. I love that they have (outdated) fabric on the inside and thermal backing fabric to keep out that hot sun. But personally, I don’t enjoy all of that fabric in that tiny space so I will be making my own thermal backed roman shades using Ikea Ringblomma Roman Blinds.
These are easily hung using command hooks and feature magnets to keep them cord free. I would love to find the perfect lightweight green linen for the bunk-end curtains.
pop up camper bedding inspiration
This is probably my number one priority in the camper. For me, there is nothing worse than trying to go to sleep on bad sheets, feeling freezing because of lack of proper blankets (or being too hot). It has to be nice and I’m not wiling to compromise. And by the way, I’ve bivouacked, slept in a sleeping bag under the stars, on a tarp, slept on the actual ground after hiking through the night (real, rough backpacking). Right now in my life, I just want cozy bedding. I’m okay with that.
This navy seersucker bedding from Target is light weight, has mid-range pricing, and can store small when not in use. I am currently obsessed with the blanket selection at Trek Light Gear, including the one I picked; the Golden Age Blanket. And, I couldn’t pass up that nostalgic Camp Pillow!
pop up camper dining table design ideas
I talked about these affordable custom cushion covers at the beginning of the post, but I’m really excited about what’s going on the table. Light weight, durable enamel plates and our trusty percolator. This national parks map has my heart and I would love to attach it to the table so we can mark our travels. The hand-hooked pillows for a little coordination and a willow vase for pretty finds. I think we will spend a lot of time here eating rainy day meals and playing cards.
We have a lot of fun little projects planned after we get the main design finished. This is a starting point, and so fun! You can view all of our pop up camper remodel posts here.
